Meaning
Physical layer configurations allow Bluetooth Low Energy devices to maintain connectivity over significantly greater distances by adding redundancy to the transmitted data. Utilizing ble le coded modes increases the receiver sensitivity without increasing the transmission power. This mechanism reduces the effective data rate to achieve a more reliable link in challenging environments.
Error Correction
Forward error correction algorithms insert extra bits into the stream to help the receiver reconstruct the original message. In ble le coded mode, the system uses a convolutional encoder followed by a pattern mapper to spread the data. This redundancy allows the radio to recover packets even when the signal is barely above the noise floor.
Sensitivity Threshold
Link budgets improve by approximately 12 decibels when moving from the standard 1 megabit mode to the maximum coding level. The ble le coded specification offers two options known as s2 and s8, where the number represents the symbols used to represent each bit. Choosing s8 provides the longest range but drops the useful throughput to 125 kilobits per second.
Deployment Case
Industrial facilities use these settings to connect sensors located behind metal obstructions or across large warehouses. Because ble le coded signals are more resilient to interference, they provide a stable connection where standard bluetooth would fail. The increased transmission time per packet is the primary trade-off for this extended reach.
