Meaning
Hydraulic or mechanical actuators provide the lateral motion required to remove side-action features from a molded part before ejection. A core pull mechanism allows the creation of undercuts or internal cavities that would otherwise lock a component into a steel tool. Precision depends on the sequence timing of these moving elements relative to the primary opening of the mold halves.
Interface Tolerance
Clearance values dictate the gap between sliding surfaces to prevent galling or seizure during rapid cycle times. Designers calculate the fit based on the thermal expansion coefficients of the specific mold steel and the anticipated operating temperature. Interference or excessive slack between the moving core and the stationary block results in flash or premature surface wear.
Actuation Force
Fluid pressure within a cylinder supplies the energy to withdraw pins against the friction of the hardening plastic. Engineers size the stroke to clear the geometry entirely before the ejector pins start their work. Sufficient power ensures the side-action stays retracted during the fill and pack stages of the injection process.
System Integration
Proper coordination of limit switches verifies that the slide reaches the fully open or locked position before the next cycle begins. Control logic monitors the physical state of the hardware to avoid catastrophic impact between internal tool components. Automated detection of a failed retraction protects the injection machine from costly damage.
