Meaning
Pseudo-vector electric field sensors measure the close-range power density of millimeter-wave transmitters in the frequency range above twenty-four gigahertz. The EUmmWV2 probe uses two orthogonal sensors to evaluate the near-field radiation patterns of fifth-generation mobile devices. This design permits accurate measurements very close to the surface of the transmitter, where conventional probes would distort the signal under test.
Near-field Measurement
Millimeter-wave signals exhibit very short wavelengths that require extremely small probe dimensions to avoid field disturbance. The EUmmWV2 probe features a sensor head that minimizes scattering and allows measurements within two millimeters of the device enclosure. This close-range data collection provides the high spatial resolution needed to evaluate localized power density levels for consumer safety testing.
Sensor Calibration
Each probe undergoes factory calibration to determine the conversion factors for different frequency bands and media. Automated systems load these correction factors during the test run to ensure that the reported values remain accurate across the operating spectrum.
Mechanical Integration
The lightweight housing of the sensor connects to the robotic positioning system without adding excessive load or vibration. The EUmmWV2 probe contains specialized fiber-optic links that transmit the detected voltage to the receiver unit without using metallic components that could couple with the radio frequency field. This isolation maintains the integrity of the measurement environment during complex three-dimensional scans.
