Meaning
Administrative category for equipment certification applications submitted to Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada. The rsp-100 class 4 designation applies specifically to permissive changes that involve hardware modifications to a previously certified radio module. It allows a manufacturer to update a device without obtaining a completely new certification number.
This classification is used when the changes do not affect the radio frequency characteristics beyond the allowed limits.
Modification Type
Hardware adjustments that remain within the original envelope of the grant fall under this path. An rsp-100 class 4 filing might involve changing a passive component or updating a non-radio circuit board layout. These changes are deemed large enough to require notification but not so drastic as to invalidate the existing data.
Technical Review
Documentation showing that the device still complies with the relevant standards is submitted for evaluation. For an rsp-100 class 4 application, the manufacturer must provide a description of the changes and evidence that the radio performance is unchanged. This often includes a partial test report focusing on the affected parameters.
The certification body verifies that the original certification number can still be used. Successful review results in an updated entry in the Radio Equipment List.
Filing Requirement
Electronic submission of the request through the ISED portal is the final step in the process. The applicant must include a cover letter explaining the nature of the rsp-100 class 4 change and its impact on the equipment. If the changes are found to exceed the class 4 boundaries, a class 3 or a new application is required.
Correct classification prevents delays in the approval of updated hardware versions.
