Meaning
Shielded enclosures lined with electromagnetic absorption material on all internal surfaces provide a reflectionless environment for radiated emissions testing. In a fully anechoic chamber, the floor is covered with absorbers to eliminate ground plane reflections and simplify the test geometry. This configuration allows for the simulation of free space conditions without the need to scan the antenna height during measurements.
Absorber Geometry
Pyramidal foam absorbers and ferrite tiles are matched to the frequency limits of the room. The design of a fully anechoic chamber must account for the physical size of these absorbers to ensure they can attenuate waves at low frequencies. Larger absorbers are required for lower frequencies, which increases the required volume of the chamber.
Shielding Effectiveness
Double shielded metal walls prevent external radio frequency signals from corrupting the internal measurements. This shielding must be maintained at all entry points, such as doors and cable penetrations, to keep the background noise floor low.
Test Methodology
Compliance testing in this environment relies on standard antenna distances, typically three meters. Automated systems rotate the device under test to capture the full radiation pattern. Because the floor reflection is absent, the measurement process is faster and more repeatable than in a semi anechoic chamber.
This increased efficiency makes the facility valuable for pre compliance and final certification sweeps.
