Meaning
National electromagnetic compatibility guidelines in South Korea are aligned with international CISPR and IEC standards. Adhering to the kn emc requirements ensures that digital equipment and wireless transmitters do not exceed permissible limits for emissions and immunity. These standards cover both household and industrial products.
They prevent interference with other electronic devices.
Laboratory Test
Test houses measure both conducted emissions on the power lines and radiated emissions in the surrounding air. To satisfy the kn emc requirements, the equipment must also demonstrate high immunity against electrostatic discharges and voltage surges. These tests are conducted in specialized anechoic chambers.
The measured signal levels must remain below the designated limit lines. Each product type has a specific sub-standard.
Product Shielding
Engineers use filtering components and metal cages to block unwanted emissions from the internal clock oscillators. If a design violates the kn emc requirements, the printed circuit board must be re-routed to isolate noisy traces. Re-testing is then required.
Compliance File
Compliance officers compile the laboratory test results and the product schematics into a technical construction file. Having a file that proves compliance with the kn emc requirements is necessary to obtain the national mark. The file is held for several years for inspection.
Audit officers review this document during market surveillance.
