Meaning
Integration requirements specify the conditions under which a pre-certified radio module may be used in a final product without requiring additional regulatory filings. These modular approval host limitations define the physical and electrical boundaries that the integrator must respect. If the host device violates these constraints, the original certification becomes invalid and the entire assembly must be re-tested.
Antenna Separation
Minimum distances between the radiating element and the human body are often mandated to ensure compliance with radio frequency exposure limits. If the module was certified for mobile use, the host must maintain at least twenty centimeters of clearance. Handheld applications require a different certification type known as portable approval.
This restriction ensures that the energy absorbed by a person remains within safe levels during device operation.
Trace Layout
Printed circuit board designs for the connection between the module and the antenna must follow the exact specifications provided by the manufacturer. Any change in the width, length or thickness of the signal path can alter the impedance and cause unwanted emissions.
Shielding Requirement
Host enclosures must provide adequate isolation to prevent the module from picking up interference from other digital circuits. Some certifications require the radio to be housed in a metal shield that covers all sensitive components.
