Meaning
A specific regulatory category under Japanese radio law governs the certification of low-power wireless communication equipment. Conforming to Giteki Clause 2 Article 1 is necessary for devices such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi modules to be legally sold and operated within Japan. This classification defines the permitted frequency bands, output power limits, and modulation methods for these devices.
Module Certification
The application process requires submitting the radio design and test reports to a registered certification body. Under Giteki Clause 2 Article 1, each module must be tested to prove that its emissions do not exceed the narrow spectral mask defined by the ministry. Successful certification grants the manufacturer the right to apply the Giteki mark and its unique identification number to the device.
Design Constraint
Developers must ensure that the RF path is secured against unauthorized modifications by end-users. This often requires shielding the RF circuitry or using an integrated antenna that cannot be detached without damaging the board. In addition, the firmware must lock the operating frequencies to prevent transmission on disallowed channels.
System handover documents must include this certification to allow the final consumer product to be marketed in Japan.
Market Entry
Failure to secure this approval blocks access to the Japanese market, a major region for connected electronics. Compliance must be established early in the design cycle to avoid costly board revisions and project delays.
