Meaning
Certifies that radio frequency equipment complies with South Korean radio wave regulations governing spectral efficiency and electromagnetic compatibility. Obtaining Korean RF Approval is mandatory prior to importing, distributing or selling wireless devices such as Wi-Fi routers, cellular modules and Bluetooth beacons in the Korean market. The National Radio Research Agency oversees this certification process, evaluating output power, occupied bandwidth and unwanted spurious emissions.
Equipment failing to satisfy these criteria cannot legally operate within national radio spectrum boundaries.
Radio Conformity
Accredited testing facilities conduct transmitter and receiver tests according to designated technical standards. Achieving Korean RF Approval requires verifying transmitter output power, frequency stability and spurious emission levels. Test reports must originate from recognized testing laboratories inside South Korea or under mutual recognition agreements.
Regulatory Submission
Overseas manufacturers submit detailed technical documentation, including schematics, block diagrams and user manuals translated into Korean. Securing Korean RF Approval involves registering product details with the National Radio Research Agency through an in-country representative. Approved products receive a unique identification code registered in the public database.
Labeling Requirement
Certified hardware must display the KC mark alongside the unique certification string on physical rating labels and device packaging. Maintaining valid Korean RF Approval protects manufacturers from regulatory fines, product confiscation and sales bans. Customs officials inspect incoming shipments for compliant product labels before releasing goods.
