Meaning
Electronic circuits designed to manipulate and prepare raw analog signals from sensors for digitization by an analog to digital converter are essential block elements in telemetry boards. Effective signal conditioning includes steps such as amplification, filtering, impedance matching, and isolation to preserve signal integrity. This preparation ensures that the digital receiver stage can process the sensor data with high accuracy.
Amplifier Stage
Low amplitude voltages from passive sensors must be boosted before transmission over printed circuit board traces. A low noise preamplifier in the signal conditioning chain raises the signal power while minimizing the addition of thermal noise. This amplification must remain linear across the entire frequency range of the sensor.
Filter Integration
High frequency noise and aliasing can distort digital data if out of band components are not removed. Implementing an anti aliasing filter as part of the signal conditioning process restricts the input signal to a specific frequency band. This step is performed before the analog to digital conversion to avoid digital distortion.
Production Testing
Handover documents for connected modules require verification of sensor interfaces under various thermal conditions. Testing the signal conditioning subsystem involves injecting precision test signals and measuring the output accuracy at the converter input. Proper calibration parameters are stored in the onboard memory of the device during this phase.
This testing guarantees the reliability of the smart device in extreme environments.
