Certification procedures under United States radio regulations allow an existing equipment authorization to be reassigned to a different corporate entity. An FCC ID transfer permits the buying company to assume full responsibility for a previously certified radio module without submitting new laboratory test reports. This process is strictly administrative and does not allow any changes to the hardware or RF characteristics of the transmitter.
Filing Transition
Executing this change requires the original grantee to submit an official release letter giving permission to the new entity. The process of an FCC ID transfer involves creating a new applicant account in the commission database. The new entity then receives its own unique identifier that links to the original technical files.
Authorization Transfer
A formal application to the telecommunications certification body begins the administrative migration of the records. This filing must verify that the new grantee holds the technical documentation and is ready to support market surveillance audits.
Post-Transfer Obligation
New labels showing the newly assigned identifier must be applied to all units manufactured after the completion of the filing. If the product undergoes subsequent hardware modifications, the new grantee is solely responsible for filing the appropriate permissive changes or seeking new approvals.
