Meaning
Schedule settings determine the specific millisecond interval during which a wireless node activates its radio to check for incoming traffic. The receiver listen window must be precisely long enough to detect a preamble but short enough to conserve limited battery power. It is the primary mechanism for low power protocol efficiency in modern iot devices.
Duty Cycle
Ratio of active listening time to idle sleep time dictates the operational life of a standalone sensor. A small receiver listen window reduces the static current draw but places a higher burden on the network to provide accurate timing. Many designs use five to ten milliseconds for this task.
Search Persistence
Noise or interference can cause the node to extend its activity to ensure it has not missed a faint signal. If a preamble is detected inside the receiver listen window, the device stays awake to process the full packet. Otherwise, it returns to sleep immediately to preserve energy for the next cycle.
Battery Life
Frequent wake cycles shorten the interval between hardware maintenance or battery changes. Finding the correct receiver listen window duration involves a trade off between latency and power. Longer windows make the device more responsive to unexpected messages but lower its deployment duration.
