Meaning
Regulatory registration of wireless and telecommunication equipment in South Korea involves assigning a unique identification code to each certified entity. This identifier, the rra applicant code, is issued by the National Radio Research Agency to identify the legal applicant responsible for bringing the product to market. It is used as the prefix of the registration number on the KC conformity label that must be affixed to the product.
Integration of any wireless module requires checking that the applicant code is correctly associated with the certification database.
Identifier Structure
The code consists of a three-character sequence assigned uniquely to each registered company. These characters represent the company in all subsequent certification submissions and cannot be transferred to another business entity. It remains a permanent part of the conformity marking throughout the life of the product.
Registration Requirement
Foreign manufacturers can apply for this code directly or through a local representative based in South Korea. The application requires presenting official corporate registration documents and proof of business existence. It must be completed before any product testing or certification files are submitted to the agency.
Compliance Lifecycle
Ensuring that the correct code is used prevents delays during customs inspections. Any discrepancy between the product label and the official registry can result in the shipment being held.
