Meaning
Software architecture in cellular modems manages the parsing and routing of instruction strings sent from a host application processor. The at command control layer operates as the intermediary that decodes text-based instructions and translates them into execution routines within the baseband processor. This mechanism ensures that external inputs do not directly disrupt internal radio frequency operations.
It enforces validation rules on inputs before passing them to the cellular stack.
Operational Interface
Physical serial connections or virtual multiplexed channels transport the text commands from the host application processor to the transceiver module. The at command control layer sits directly behind these driver interfaces to buffer incoming characters, scanning them continuously for the attention prefix. Once the parser identifies a valid prefix, it isolates the parameters and routes the parsed array to the corresponding system handler.
This architecture protects the cellular modem from malformed string payloads and potential memory overflow attacks from the host controller. It acts as the gatekeeper for module configuration.
Execution Mechanism
Command execution occurs in a task loop that runs with high priority. It matches incoming strings against a registered table of supported instruction handlers.
System Boundary
Testing of this interface takes place during the final module integration phase using compliance test suites. The at command control layer blocks commands that would exceed the physical thermal limits of the module or force invalid transmission modes. However, it does not manage physical voltage levels or line termination directly.
