Meaning
Periodic manufacturing review procedure determines if a production line still meets its certified quality and tolerance standards after a major change or a pre-determined period of operation. Undergoing process capability requalification ensures that the manufacturing process continues to produce conforming products without drift. This procedure is a requirement in regulated industries to maintain the validated state of the production line.
Audit Trigger
Events such as major equipment maintenance, tooling changes, or software updates on the assembly line can trigger this procedure. It is also scheduled at regular intervals, such as annually, to catch slow-drifting errors that are not apparent during daily quality checks. The process requires a new batch of samples to be collected and analyzed.
Testing Protocol
Engineers run a series of capability tests to recalculate the process capability indices. This confirms that the line still operates within acceptable limits.
System Approval
The results must be documented in a requalification report and signed off by the quality manager before the line can return to full production. If the process is found to be out of spec, corrective actions must be implemented and a new round of testing must be performed. This ensures that only high-quality products leave the factory floor.
