Meaning
Production line asset management establishes clear responsibility for the ownership, calibration, and maintenance of test hardware. Through test fixture custody, the manufacturing team or their partner assumes formal responsibility for the test fixture while it is deployed on their line. This process uses a transfer document that records the physical state and calibration status of the fixture during handover.
It ensures that the test fixture is maintained according to the designer’s standards.
Physical Control
The physical security and storage of the fixture are managed by the custodian. When not in use, the fixture must be stored in a dry, dust-free environment to protect the sensitive pogo pins and cabling. The custodian must also limit access to authorized personnel to prevent accidental damage or unauthorized modifications.
This control prevents wear and keeps the fixture ready for the next run.
Calibration Check
Periodic calibration is required to ensure the fixture continues to produce accurate results. The custodian must run the golden unit verification and log the results at the start of every shift. If the fixture drifts out of calibration, the custodian must arrange for maintenance or return the fixture to the design team.
This check prevents the fixture from producing incorrect test results.
Ownership Handover
The transition of responsibility is completed through a formal sign-off process. This handover requires a physical inspection of the fixture, a review of its maintenance logs, and a test run of a reference unit. Once signed, the custodian is responsible for the fixture’s maintenance and performance.
This process protects both the design team and the manufacturer by establishing a clear trail of responsibility for the test hardware. It guarantees that any issues or damages that occur during production are resolved according to the agreed contract, avoiding disputes between the engineering team and the factory.
