Meaning
International standard specifies the acceptance and periodic verification tests for coordinate measuring machines used for measuring linear dimensions.
Test Methodology
Performance is evaluated by measuring a set of five calibrated test lengths in seven different positions and orientations within the machine volume to cover the full extent of the work zone. The iso 10360-2 procedure uses either gauge blocks or a step gauge to establish these reference lengths and verify the axis performance. Each length is measured three times to ensure the results are statistically significant and to minimize the impact of random thermal variations.
This redundancy provides a defensible assessment of the system repeatability under standard operating conditions.
Error Specification
Results are expressed as the maximum permissible error of length measurement, which is typically a function of the measured length. The iso 10360-2 value allows a user to predict the measurement uncertainty for any distance within the machine range. It accounts for both the scale errors and the geometric errors of the axes.
Acceptance Limit
Verification fails if any of the thirty-five measurements exceeds the limit specified by the manufacturer. The iso 10360-2 test provides a clear pass or fail criterion for the initial installation or the annual calibration of the machine. It serves as the primary benchmark for the linear accuracy of a metrology system.
