Meaning
Mathematical criteria used by regulatory bodies evaluate the necessity of simultaneous transmission testing for wireless devices with multiple antennas. The splsr is calculated when the sum of the individual absorption rates of the antennas exceeds the regulatory limit. This ratio determines whether the device can be certified without performing co-location scans.
Mathematical Calculation
Formulas divide the sum of the peak absorption rates to the power of one point five by the distance between the peak locations. If the resulting value is below the specified limit of zero point zero four, the transmitters are exempt from simultaneous testing. This calculation uses the peak coordinate data extracted from the initial test scans.
Antenna Spacing
Physical spacing of the radiating elements is the primary variable that determines the value of the ratio. A larger distance between the antennas reduces the calculated ratio, making it easier to qualify for the exemption. This spacing must be verified against the mechanical layout drawings to ensure accuracy.
Exemption Status
When the device qualifies for the exemption, the laboratory documents the calculation in the final report to justify bypassing the simultaneous testing. This status is reviewed by the certification body before issuing the equipment authorization. If the ratio is above the limit, the device must undergo a full simultaneous transmit evaluation, which increases the testing time and complexity of the certification process.
